Govt reappoints

MDs for Sonali,

Agrani, Rupali

The government on Tuesday approved reappointment of managing directors for state-owned Sonali, Agrani and Rupali banks. Managing Director of Rupali Bank Ataur Rahman Prodhan will head the largest state-owned bank Sonali. On the other hand, Sonali Bank's managing director Obayed Ullah Al Masud will lead the Rupali Bank. Managing Director of Agrani Bank Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam will remain at the same bank. They will lead the banks for three more years. Three separate letters, signed by Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Mohammad Abdul Awal, were sent to the chairmen of the concerned banks in this connection. — FE Report

‘Robber’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX'S BAZAR, Aug 20: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Magnama in Pekua upazila early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Badsha, son of Abul Kashem of the Tekpara area. Tipped off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area around 4.00 am when the incident took place, said Didarul Islam, sub-inspector of Pekua Police Station.— UNB
