BIWTA gives vessels go-ahead as weather improves

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Wednesday afternoon lifted its order suspending plying of vessels from the Sadarghat launch terminal. The BIWTC suspended the plying of vessels, including launches and ferries, from 3:00pm until further notice due to inclement weather. However, it withdrew the order around 5:30pm following improvement in the weather condition. When contacted, BIWTA Joint Director Alamgir Kabir said they lifted the suspension as per suggestions of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. — UNB

Customs seize 1.5kg gold at Dhaka airport

Customs intelligence Wednesday seized 15 gold bars weighing 1.5kg and detained a man in this connection in the Green Channel area of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city. The detainee was identified as Mohammad Kamal Hossain, an inhabitant of Burirchang upazila in Cumilla. "Each gold bar weighs 100-gram and the gold is worth about Tk 7.5 million," Deputy Commissioner of Customs Intelligence Athello Chowdhury said. Tipped off, Kamal was intercepted at the green channel soon after he arrived here from Bangkok by an aircraft of Thai Airways around 2.30 pm. A case was lodged in this connection. — BSS
