Two persons died of dengue, one in Sirajganj and another in Rajshahi, as 527 more people fell ill with the deadly mosquito-borne viral fever in the last 24 hours to Saturday morning.

According to bdnews24. com, a woman died of dengue under treatment at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 10:00 am.

She was identified as Raushan Ara, 55, a native of Kushtia's Doulpur village, said the hospital's Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous.

"Raushan was admitted to the hospital with dengue on Tuesday. As her condition began to deteriorate, she was shifted to the ICU and died under treatment there."

The hospital only admitted one new dengue patient in the 24 hours to 11:00 am on Saturday, said Dr Saiful. Two patients were discharged after recovery during that time.

The hospital was currently treating 19 patients for dengue, two of them in the ICU. Some 657 patients returned home after treatment at the hospital so far while three people died under treatment.

An FE Report adds: The number of dengue patients kept declining across the country with 527 more people infected with the deadly viral fever in the last 24 hours to Saturday morning, official data showed.

According to the health emergency operation centre and control room under the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), the latest figure was down by 22 per cent than that of the previous 24 hours.

Of the newly-affected people, 371 were outside the capital and only 157 in Dhaka.

The overall tally of the dengue-infected people has risen to a new high of 80,567 since January. Of them, 77,368 have returned home after treatment.

Although the state-run DGHS confirmed 60 deaths attributed to dengue, medial and unofficial sources put the number at more than 200.
