The World Water Day 2019 was observed in the capital on Friday with a view to creating awareness about water usage while ensuring access to water for all.

The theme of this year is intended to address the issue of equitable access to water: Leaving no one behind.

This is also the central to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030.

As part of observing the day, speakers at a workshop stressed the need for applying nature-based solutions to improve water management in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna basin.

The basin is home to approximately 620 million people in five countries such as China, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal.

From March 19-21, the BRIDGE GBM Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Network, through the BRIDGE Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) programme facilitated by the International Union for Conversation of Nature (IUCN) organised the workshop at Sreemangal in Moulvibazar in the week of the World Water Day.

The workshop was organised to enhance CSO understanding of Nature-based Solutions (NbS), and help CSOs better document NbS best practices related to water management in the basin.
