The Inter Service Public Relation Directorate in a statement on Saturday warned against the use of the name of Bangladesh Army by illegal housing companies.

The statement said the army noticed advertisements published in some dailies notifying sale of flats in 'Army Society' spanning Moushair, Chalabon, Shahkabir Mazar Road and Dakkhin Khan of of Uttara in Dhaka.

The release said that the 'Army Society' in no way is recognized or established as a residential area of the Bangladesh Army or any other defence force. Moreover, the housing society is also not registered

with the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms or any other authorities of the government.

The area was being used long ago by the army for its training purpose. Then it was known to the people as Armytek, it added.

Some people then formed the 'Army Society House and Nurse Welfare Association' on their own around 20/25 years ago. Since then the society became known as Army Society, it further said.

There are over 150 houses and plots in the society area. Some big developer companies are constructing multi-storied buildings in the area.

The press release said it is not justifiable that individuals will buy land in the area and use the word 'army' in naming it 'Army Society'.

Some people and developer companies were tarnishing the image and reputation of the army by cashing in on the name of it as 'Army Society' to sell plots and flats at higher rates, the release said.

Such activities with an ulterior motive must be stopped immediately, it added.
