HC order on Robi's plea against BTRC claim tomorrow

FE REPORT | October 23, 2019 00:00:00

The High Court fixed October 24 to pass an order on an appeal filed by Robi Axiata Ltd, seeking an injunction against the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission's move to realise Tk 8.67 billion from the mobile phone operator.

The HC bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order on Tuesday on a petition filed by Robi Axiata.

Barrister Kazi Ershadul Alam who appeared in the court on behalf of Robi Axiata said, "The High Court admitted our appeal on October 20 and fixed today (Tuesday) to pass order on our plea filed for seeking injunction against BTRC's claim. But the HC deferred the date to October 24 to pass order on the petition."

BTRC on July 31 last year issued a notice, asking Robi Axiata to pay Tk 8.67 billion as dues. In the same letter, BTRC claimed Tk 125.79 billion from Grameenphone.

Later, Robi filed the appeal with a lower court in Dhaka, seeking an injunction against realisation of the money by BTRC, but the court turned down the petition.

Robi in October this year moved the appeal to the High Court, seeking injunction against the BTRC's move to realise dues from Robi.

On October 20, the High Court admitted the appeal for hearing. And on Tuesday, the High Court fixed Thursday for passing an ad interim on the appeal.

Advocate Prabir Neogi and Barrister Kazi Ershadul Alam appeared for Robi while Barrister Khandaker Reza-e-Raquib moved for BTRC.
