CHATTOGRAM, Dec 06: The third three-day International SME Fair starts at World Trade Centre (WTC) in the port city tomorrow.
The Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is organising the event.
Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president will inaugurate the fair on Saturday afternoon.
CCCI president Mahbubul Alam said this on Thursday morning at a press conference at Bangabandhu Conference Hall of the WTC that houses the CCCI.
CCCI vice-president Syed Jamal Ahmed and directors such as Ahid Siraj Swapan and Omar Hazzaz were present at the programme.
Mr Alam said there will be 45 stalls showcasing products of local entrepreneurs in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.
The sector includes plastic goods, leather, leather products, jute, jute products, agro-products, handicrafts, services and tourism.
Islami Bank Bangladesh and National Credit and Commerce Bank have sponsored the fair where seven other banks will display their services.
Mr Alam said the CCCI has been arranging different kinds of export fairs since the WTC was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Terming the SME sector the lifeblood of economy, he said Japan is now an economic powerhouse as it has fully exploited its SME sector successfully.
The CCCI is also working hard to augment the sector and helping explore markets for SME products globally, Mr Alam mentioned.
