Spanish company proposes route for subway

The Spanish consultant assigned to carry out a feasibility study on subways in the city has proposed a route on the east-west corridor for the underground train system.

The proposed route was selected keeping the alignments of mass rapid transit lines 1, 2, 5 and 6 and bus rapid transit lines 3 and 7 aside which were recommended in the revised strategic transport plan.

The Spanish company has been assigned to carry out feasibility study on four routes, but it has so far proposed only one route.

Information about the proposed subway route was shared at a meeting held at Setu Bhaban on Monday, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

The team leader of the consulting company named TYPSA Marin Thomas presented an inception report at the meeting.

National Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury presided over the meeting. Engineer-in-Chief of Bangladesh Army Major General M Siddiqur Rahman Sarkar, Professor Dr Khan Mahmud Amanat of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and high officials concerned were present.
