20 fishermen missing as trawler sinks in Kutubdia channel

CHATTOGRAM, June 19: Twenty fishermen of a fishing trawler remain missing in rough weather in the deep sea of the Bay of Bengal for the last one week, local sources confirmed today.

The fishermen left Banskhali coast of the Bay for deep sea fishing by FB Jaharlal that sank in Sonarchar area of the Banskhali-Kutubdia channel, said owner of the trawler Haridhar Jaladas.

He said the trawler went to the deep sea for fishing a week ago but he received information that they were caught in the rough sea weather as the trawler sank.

Banskhali police station said the station got the news and is trying to communicate with relevant persons.

The fishermen were identified as Subal Jaladas, Sourav Jaladas, Bhuluram Jaladas, Tapan Das, Ashim Jaladas, Bijoy Jaladas, Ritan Das, Upendra Das, Sajal Das, Mostafa Ali, Bhimuram Das, Karna Majhi, Mridul Das, Shimul Das, Anil Das, Brahmapada Das, Niranjan Das, Madan Jaladas, Bimal Das and trawler driver Md Moinuddin.
