37 grab 30 acres of Dhaleshwari land in Singair, says DC

Some 30 acres of land along the Dhaleshwari River under Dhalla mouja in Singair Upazila of Manikganj have been occupied by 37 individuals and organisations, including Manikganj Power Generations Limited, according to a report submitted to the High Court (HC) on Monday, reports UNB.

Of the land, 11.30 acres are under the occupation of Manikganj Power Generations Limited alone, said the report placed by the Manikganj deputy commissioner. A list of the 37 illegal land grabbers was also submitted before the HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal. Later, the court fixed February 25 for the next hearing.

Advocate Manzill Murshid stood for the petitioner while assistant attorney general Purobi Saha represented the state.

On October 22 last, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed a writ petition with the HC seeking its directives to free the Dhaleshwari River from the clutches of grabbers.

The following day, the HC issued a rule and asked the Manikganj deputy commissioner to submit a report within 60 days attaching CS/RS records.

The 37 individuals and organisations are Kalam Miah, Abed Ali, Shamsul Haque, Bachhiron, Ibrahim Miah, Nomaj Ali, Idris Ali, Achhia Khatun, Anwara Begum, Ali Akbar, Sahed Ali, Shamsuddin, Rafiqul Islam, Abdul Ali, Jinnat Ali, Abdul Jalil, Sundar Ali, Delwar Hossain and Ziauddin Ahmed (3.69 acres), Manikganj Power Generations Ltd (11.30 acres), Julfikar (0.70acres), Jagaroni Chakra (0.34 acres), Abdul Barek, Kamar Uddin, Abdul Khalek, Riaz Uddin and Abed Ali (0.74 acres), Abu Taher Mollah (0.62acres), Jaglu, Chhalim and Nizam Uddin (0.63 acres), Monirul Islam (1.13 acres), Abdul Majid Mollah, Abdul Haque and Mostak Ahmed (0.75 acres), Abdul Haque, Mostak Ahmed and Shakil Ahmed (1.98 acres), Idris Mollah (0.70 acres), Penta Properties Ltd (0.71 acres), Abdul Hamid and Siddiqur Rahman, Habibur Rahman Mollah and Rakiba Aktar (2.02 acres), Moslem Uddin, Abbas Ali, Sarbat Ali, Tofazzal Hossain, Kalam Miah, Abed Ali, Shamsul Haque, Bachhiron, Ibrahim Miah, Nomaj Ali, Idris Ali, Achhia Khatun, Anwara Begum, Ali Akbar, Farid Ahmed and Md Ramzan Ali (1.32 acres).
