The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has appointed on Wednesday a new investigation officer(IO) for sensational DIG Mizan case in place of tembporarily suspended ACC director Khandaker Enamul Basir.

The ACC director Manjur Morshed has been appointed the new investigator of the case, said ACC public relations official Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

The commission has been investigating allegation of amassing huge wealth from unknown sources against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman.

ACC Director General (Special Investigation) Sayeed Mahbub Khan will supervise the investigation.

Mr Basir was suspended from his duty on Monday by the commission on charge of leaking information of a probe report to DIG Mizan.

The suspended ACC director was investigating alleged accumulation of illegal wealth by DIG Mizan who reportedly earned through llegal means in the form of recruitment, transfer and promotion of police personnel.

Meanwhile on the day, Mr Basir claimed that it has been damaging for him as many of the media outlets have published false, fictitious and baffling news about him.

"They (media) have been publishing reports without verifying whether it is true or not," he told reporters while entering the ACC headquarters.

Basir allegedly demanded bribes amounting to Tk 4.0 million from DIG Mizan in exchange of dropping his name from the charges and leaking probe information to him.

According to published media reports, of the bribe amount, the ACC official took Tk 2.5 million in a shopping bag from the accused DIG at Ramna Park in the city and expected of getting the remaining amount soon.

The officer also demanded a gas-driven car in transporting his son to and from school.

DIG Mizan was withdrawn as additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) following a marital scandal in January last year.
