The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday interrogated six top officials of AB Bank Ltd including a former managing director in connection with loan disbursement against fake mortgage documents.

The officials were AB Bank's former managing director Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury, deputy managing director (DMD) Badrul Haque Khan, chief financial officer (CFO) Mahadev Sarker Sumon, senior vice presidents Salma Akhter and Wasika Afrozi and vice president Manjur Mafiz.

The AB Bank officials arrived at the commission's headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha around 10:30 am and stayed there till 3:30 pm, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Bhattacharjee.

The national anti-graft authority issued a notice on October 18, asking the six bankers to appear before the ACC on October 23.

According to the summon notice, the accused persons disbursed loans to 23 companies without mortgage or against fake mortgage papers and helped the businesses in siphoning off the loan money abroad.

ACC assistant director and investigation officer Md Sirazul Haque interrogated the AB Bank officials.

Meanwhile, a team of the anti-graft watchdog conducted a raid on a restaurant in the city's Badda area acting on an allegation received through Hotline-106 that the eatery has illegal gas connection.

During the drive, ACC unveiled that the restaurant named Food Palace, located near Shahzadpur bus stop, has been using gas illegally for last two years.

Illegal gas connection, given by some dishonest Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd staff, caused a loss of over Tk 1 million.

The ACC team revealed that the restaurant operates 12 burners that consume around 495 cubic feet gas per hour, costing an average of Tk 70,000 to Tk 80,000 to Titas gas a month.

However, the Titas authority disconnected the line and fined the restaurant Tk 0.9 million.

A six-member ACC team led by its assistant director Rezaul Karim conducted the drive. Titas gas vigilance team (north) manager Engineer Shahid Hossain and assistant Engineer Nurunnabi Mostafa Kamal were also present.
