Women rights activists demand at memorial meeting on Taramon Bibi

A commemorative meeting on Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi was held at the National Press Club in the city on Thursday with a call to all concerned to work for keeping record of the contributions of all female freedom fighters (FFs).

Bangladesh Mahila Parisad (BMP), Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK) and Bangladesh Nari Progoti Sangha (BNPS) jointly organised the meeting with BNPS Executive Director Rokeya Kabir in the chair.

BMP President Ayesha Khanum, BNSK President Nasimun Ara Haq, General Secretary Parveen Sultana Jhuma and Shahid Jaya Shymoli Nasrin Chowdhruy spoke on the occasion recalling the contributions of the late freedom fighter, Taramon Bibi, who fought in the front line in the Liberation War when she was only 14.

Taramon Bibi died on December 1 at her village home at Kacharipara in Rajibur upazila of Kurigram district.

The speakers said like Taramon Bibi other war heroines also did not have recongnition for their bold participation in the Liberation War, for which many of them had to pass life in subhuman condition.

Nasimun Ara Haq demanded erecting a memorial in recognition of the contributions of the female freedom fighters.

Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury called upon all concerned to provide support to the family of Taramon Bibi.

Ayesha Khanum laid importance on highlighting the contributions of the womenfolk in the Liberation War and urged the Liberation War Ministry to play due role in this regard.

Rokeya Kabir also laid emphasis on finding out the contributions of members of the working classes, including farmers and labourers and urged all including Bangla Academy and Muktijoddha Sangsad to carry out research and investigation.
