Leaders of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS) demanded on Monday unconditional release of their secretary general Mozzammel Hoque Chowdhury.

They also called upon the government to withdraw false cases filed against him.

"We call upon the government for immediate and unconditional release of Moazzamel Hoque Chowdhury," Chairperson of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) advocate Sultana Kamal said at a press conference organised by BJKS for his release at the National Press Club.

"I appeal to the Prime Minister please release my husband," Rizu Akter Chowdhury, wife of Mozzammel Hoque Chowdhury said while she burst into tears.

Chief coordinator of Ganosanghati Anodolon Zonayed Saki said Mozzammel Hoque Chowdhury raised his voice against the irregularities in the transport sector and for passengers' safety.

He said getting bail in a case is the fundamental rights of the citizen. Mr Chowdhury was arrested on September 5 in an extortion case from his Siddhirganj, residence.

Hearing of another case filed against him will be heard today (Tuesday), according to the leaders of BJKS.

BJKS president Khairul Amin, its executive members Kazi Amanullah Mahfuz and Shamsuddin Chowdhury were present, among others.
