‘Drug trader’, ‘terrorist’ die in ‘gunfights’

A suspected drug peddler and an alleged terrorist were killed in separate 'gunfights' with police in two districts on Saturday, reports UNB.

In Mymensingh, a suspected drug peddler was killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Hobirbari in Bhaluka Upazila here early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Rubel, 31, son of Mujibur Rahman of Jamirdia village in the upazila.

Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch, said tipped off that a group of drug peddlers gathered in the area at around 02:30 am a team of police raided the area.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, drug peddlers opened fire on them while fleeing the spot, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, the OC added.

Police recovered bullet-hit Rubel from the spot and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered 200 Yaba tablets and 100 grams heroin from the spot.

He was wanted in seven cases, the OC said.

Meanwhile, an alleged terrorist was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Moharajpur in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Tutul, 35, son of Fazlu Monna of Ram Chandrapur village in the upazila.

Tipped off that some terrorists were holding a secret meeting at Mojarajpur to foil the upcoming upazila parishad election, a team of police conducted a drive there, said Inspector (Operations) of Sadar Police Station Md Idris Ali.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the terrorists opened fire at them around 1pm, triggering a gunfight.

Police rescued bullet-hit Tutul after the gun battle and took him to Sadar Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, the police official said.
