Former Justice Amirul Kabir Chy passes away

NHRC expresses shock

The first chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, former Supreme Court's Appellate Division judge Justice Amirul Kabir Chowdhury passed away (Inhalilah ... rajeon) on May 01 in city's Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.

He was 78, says a press release. Amirul Kabir was survived by a son and two daughters to mourn his death.

He was admitted to the hospital on March 25 following old age complications.

Afterwards infection in his lung was detected.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held on Dhanmondi Eidgah Mosque premises on Tuesday night.

His last namaz-e-janaza was held at Chandgaon residential area mosque in Chattogram after Zuhr prayers on Wednesday. He was buried in family gaveyard.

Kazi Reazul Hoque, current member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and its secretary general Dr. Saiful Islam Dildar expressed deep shocks at the demise of former justice Amirul Kabir.

They said Amirul Kabir tried his best to establish justice for the development of National Human Rights Commission and made immense contributions to it.
