FE Report | August 21, 2019 00:00:00

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday summoned the director (admin and finance) of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), Md Shameem Al Mamun.

He will have to appear in the court on August 27 to give explanation about the budget proposal sent to the commerce ministry for Tk 05 million (50 lakh) to install a 24-hour hotline for customer services.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order after hearing a compliance report submitted by the DNCRT on the quality of 52 products.

Following a writ petition, the same HC bench on June 16 this year ordered the DNCRP to introduce a hotline service within two months to hear consumers' complaints and to settle those.

At the same time, the court ordered the consumer rights body to submit a progress report in this regard by August 19. Complying with the HC order, a repost was submitted on Monday.

Advocate Kamruzzaman placed the report in the court on behalf of the DNCRT.

The report said the directorate proposed for Tk 50 lakh to introduce a 24- hour hotline service.

In view of this, Shamim Al Mamun, the chairman of the budget committee, has been asked to appear in the court to explain the budget proposal.
