The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday launched e-registration app named 'Electronic Management Information System (eMIS)' for its field-level workers to collect data digitally.

The app will allow the community health workers to collect population and health service- related data via digital device, while the field managers will be able to coordinate with the workers online.

Initially the ministry launched the project in five districts including Moulvibazar, Madaripur, Jhenaidah, Natore and Noakhali after it was piloted in Tangail and Habiganj districts from 2015.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim inaugurated the expansion programme of the eMIS project at a ceremony organised by the ministry at a hotel in the city.

The eMIS was developed for the health ministry by USAID in partnership with MEASURE Evaluation, icddr,b, MaMoni HSS, and Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Programme.

Presided over by Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) director general Dr Kazi Mostafa Sawar, the ceremony was also addressed by Medical Education and Family Welfare Division secretary Md Sirazul Islam, Health Services Division secretary Serajul Huq Khan, DGFP director (MIS) AKM Mahbubur Rahman Joarder and USAID director (office of population, health, nutrition and education) Caroll Vasquez.

In a presentation, MEASURE Evaluation senior strategic and technical adviser Md Humayun Kabir said the app was developed for registration of socio-demographic information of population and capturing services at the community and health facility levels.

He said the community health workers will be able to collect population data including family planning, maternal and child and adolescent care easily using the app that runs both online and offline.

At the same time, health managers will get real time data from the field workers and take immediate decisions avoiding administrative difficulties.

Mr Kabir also said it took almost a day of a health worker to prepare a monthly report in the past, but now it takes only a few minutes to make such report.

Speaking at the programme, the Health Minister said every sector is now ICT based, so, health sector isn't out of the trend.

Stating that the app will be launched in all 64 districts by turns, he said the app will increase work efficiency of the filed level workers by saving their time and reducing hardship.

Mr Nasim distributed Tablet PCs installed with the eMIS app to the health officials of the five districts in the programme.
