New Nagar Bhaban will be constructed in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 21: At long last the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is going to construct the new City Building (Nagar Bhaban) at a cost of Tk202 crore (2.02 billion) and 26 lakh (2.6 million).

The decision was taken at the 44th general meeting (GM) of the CCC, held at its Abdus Sattar Hall on Thursday afternoon.

The meeting was chaired by CCC mayor A J M Nasir Uddin while acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammed Abu Shahed Chowdhury moderated it.

Among others, CCC's panel mayors, ward councillors, Chief Engineer Lt. Colonel Mohiuddin Ahamod, Chief Education Officer Suman Barua, Special Magistrate Jahanara Ferdous, Executive Magistrate Afia Akter and high officials were present at the meeting.

At the meeting, it was also decided that North Middle Halishahar will be renamed Munir Nagar. Various other important decisions regarding development of the port city were also taken.

CCC mayor A J M Nasir Uddin said, "The list of non-brick roads will be collected within three days to make them modern. Seven multi-storey buildings will also be constructed for sweepers in the city. There will be 1,308 flats each 550 square feet for sweepers' accommodation. The project will be implemented spending Tk 231 crore (2.31 billion) and 42 lakh (4.2 million)."

He said, "Digital maps of all wards will be prepared and LED lamps set up in the city. Besides, steps will be taken to reduce traffic congestion in the city soon."

He further said, "We will construct the 23-storey new Nagar Bhaban on 33,955 square feet land at a cost of Tk202 crore (2.02 billion) and 26 lakh (2.6 million). Uninterrupted power supply will be ensured in the new Nagarbaban and all types of modern facilities will be provided.

The new Nagar Bhaban will ensure the good environment for the staff and councillors of CCC."
