Speakers recommend digitising disaster risk management

Establishing a digital platform for information management and enhancing capacity of officials concerned are vital for making disaster risk management activities more purposeful, speakers said.

They underscored the need for introducing disaster impact assessment programme, spreading knowledge and promoting disaster-resilient business continuity plans.

The speakers made the recommendations at an inception workshop of 'National Resilience Programme (NRP)-Programming Division part' held at National Economic Council (NEC) in the capital, a statement said.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which is the technical partner of the project, organised the workshop.

Md Ziaul Islam, senior secretary of Planning Division, attended the function as the chief guest with programming division chief Syeedul Haque in the chair.

Agriculture, Water Resource and Rural Institutions Division chief Prashanta Kumar Chakraborty and UNDP Bangladesh assistant resident representative Md Khurshid Alam attended it as the special guests.

NRP deputy chief and project director presented an action plan of the project funded by Bangladesh, UK Department for International Development and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
