Syed Ashraf's wife passes away

President, PM mourn

Shila Ashraf, wife of Awami League presidium member and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraf, passed away at a hospital in London on Monday, report agencies.

She was 57.

Shila, who had been suffering from cancer, breathed her last at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) at 3:10 am (London time), said AFM Hayatullah, private secretary to the minister.

Diagnosed with cancer, Sheila was undergoing treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit for the last five days.

Syed Ashraf and the couple's daughter Rima Islam were by her side when she breathed her last.

Shila who was a former teacher of a school in London had been living in London along with her family members.

Meanwhile, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Shila Islam.

In a condolence message, the President and Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
