Tk 26.4m project to excavate Badar Shah pond in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, June 23: The Chittagong City Corporation has taken up a Tk 26.4 million project to excavate the historically-important Badar Shah pond in the city.

Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin disclosed this after a view-exchange meeting with the Mutwalli of Shah Sufi Hazrat Amanat Khan Mazar at the latter's residence.

Ashek Ullah Chowdhury, MP from Cox's Bazar, Niaz Morshed Elite, Enamul Haque, FQ Khan, Belayet Ullah Khan, Anderkilla Ward Councillor Jaharlal Hazari and CCC Chief Engineer Farhadul Alam were present at the meeting.

The city people have long been making demand for digging up the pond and protecting it from pollution, said a statement issued by Public Relations Officer of CCC Rafiqul Islam.

They will start digging up the pond on July 15, he added.

The pond has a special religious importance. It is located near the centuries-old Badar Shah Mazar which is visited by thousands of people and devotees from the city and other parts of the country.
