Tough agricultural marketing law in the offing

The Agricultural Marketing Bill, 2018 was placed in Parliament on Monday with a provision of tough punishment for running business without licence, reports UNB.

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury placed the bill and it was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny. The committee was asked to submit its report within three working days.

As per the proposed law, licence will be required for running warehouses and cold storages.

According to the bill, the punishment for 13 offences, including doing business activities without licence, handing over licence to others and charging extra money than the fixed rents.

No case can be accepted under the law without having written complaint by Director General of the Agricultural Marketing or any other person authorized by him.
