The World Bank (WB) is going to initiate a next generation 'Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)' project emphasising on graduate employability, governance including excellence in women's education in Bangladesh, reports UNB.

The core goals of this project are to establish a regional network of higher education institutions, improve teaching, learning and research to support graduate employability and improve the higher education management of the country, said a press release of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan said around 3.8 million students in tertiary level as well as teachers and researchers are expected to be immensely benefited from the HEAT project.

It is anticipated that UGC shall be the implementing agency of the project, said Chairman of the commission while addressing a workshop on the proposed HEAT project at UGC auditorium on Saturday.

The UGC organised the workshop following the success of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP).

Chaired by UGC Member Professor Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, the programme was addressed, among others, by UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled, WB Senior Operations Officer Dr Mokhlesur Rahman and its Lead Economist Dr Venkatesh Sundararaman.

The design of five-year-long HEAT project is expected to be completed in June, 2019, after extensive consultations of the relevant stakeholders and citizens, it said.
