Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Thursday the nation finally boycotted the people, who do not believe in the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the last parliamentary elections, reports BSS.

"The country's people boycotted those who don't follow the ideology of Bangabandhu in the 11th general elections. The nation has trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as development. That's why Awami League got a massive support from the country's people," he told reporters after placing a wreath on the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the city's Dhanmondi-32.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said his party will work with common people following the ideology of Bangabandhu.

"We'll stay beside people and work for them. This is our pledge," he added.

The AL general secretary said: "We don't believe that the political leaders, who say Bangabandhu didn't want independence, have minimum respect for Bangabandhu. Now the country's people boycotted them".

About BNP's movement, he said people have no headache about their movement as they boycotted the party.

Meanwhile, Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim said on Thursday the newly elected MPs of Jatiya Oikya Front should swear in and play a positive role in parliament.

"I would request the elected MPs of Oikya Front to swear in without being hot tempered and join parliament. They should honour the people's mandate by playing a positive role in parliament although they are a few," he said.
