Country in golden time of free information stream: Speaker

The Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury Saturday said that the mass media of Bangladesh has been passing its golden time, as the scope of working and functionality has expanded, reports BSS.

"The government has enabled the print and electronic mass media to express independent views freely," she said while addressing as the chief guest the 10th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Pratidin, at Basundhara Convention centre in the city.

She urged the media people to hold the cognition of the liberation war and provide the readers with the realistic and actual news.

She also suggested the media men to become more careful and observant while presenting news.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary, she congratulated Bangladesh Pratidin officials and employees.

Poet Shamshur Rahman (posthumous), singer Sabina Yasmin, Television personality Hanif Sangket and actresses Bobita and Sarah Begum Kobori were awarded with the lifetime achievement award.

Presided over by author Imdadul Haque Milon, Dhaka South City Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Dhaka North City Mayor Atiqul Haque, Chairman of Basundhara Group, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin, Naem Nizam, journalists Saban Mahmud and Pir Habibur Rahman were present, among others, at the ceremony.
