The High Court (HC) granted on Thursday bail to former Awami League (AL) MP from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case filed over the killing of freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed, report agencies.

Faruk was also a member of Tangail district unit of AL.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order.

Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah stood for the state while lawyer Monsurul Haque Chowdhury for the accused.

The deputy attorney general said they will file appeal to the Supreme Court (SC) against the order.

Meanwhile, the Appellate Division of the SC stayed a HC order that granted bail to Rana in a case filed over the killing of two Jubo League leaders.

Chamber Judge Nuruzzaman passed the order following a petition filed by the state.

Earlier on March 6, the HC granted bail to him in the case filed over the killing of two Jubo League leaders.

Rana surrendered to the Tangail additional district and session's judge court on September 18, 2016 ending his 22-month fugitive run in the freedom fighter murder case.

The AL leader went into 'hiding' after he was accused of killing freedom fighter and member of district unit AL Faruk Ahmed.

On January 18, 2013, the AL leader was shot dead in front of his residence in the district town.

Later, Faruk's wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection.

Fourteen people, including four brothers of Tangail's influential Khan Family, were made accused in the murder case.

Baghil union Jubo League leaders Mohammad Shamim and Mohammad Mamun went missing on July 16, 2012 in the district town.

The following day, Shamim's mother filed a general diary with Tangail Sadar thana.
