February 12, 2019 00:00:00

Four Jatiya Party (JP) MP candidates, nominated for the reserved seats for women in the 11th parliament, submitted their nomination forms to the Election Commission (EC) on Monday, reports UNB.

The four candidates together with JP senior leaders went to the EC secretariat at noon and submitted their nomination papers to the returning officer.

The four JP candidates are party presidium members Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Salma Islam, party chairman's advisers Prof Raushan Ara Mannan and Najma Akhter.

JP co-chairman GM Quader, secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga, presidium members Fakhrul Islam and Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan were, among others, present.

Talking to reporters, Ranga said his party will demonstrate in Parliament that huge opposition MPs are not needed to speak loudly in favour of people. "We'll also prove that the role of the true opposition can be played by a small number of MPs."

He said they will play the role of the opposition in a systematic and decent way instead of indulging in badmouthing in parliament.

On February 03, the Election Commission announced the election schedule for the reserved seats.

The 50 seats of parliament reserved for women are distributed among parties based on the number of their representation in Parliament.
