On behalf of the people of his country and himself, French Prime Minister Édouard Charles Philippe has congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her being elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fourth term through the December-30 general election, reports UNB.

French ambassador in Dhaka Marie-Annick Bourdin on Thursday handed over a congratulatory letter of the French premier to Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the French envoy's meeting with the Prime Minister.

In the congratulatory letter, the French Prime Minister said the election held on December 30, 2018 mobilised both a large number of people and the Bangladeshi political parties.

The French Prime Minister applauded Sheikh Hasina for generously giving shelter to the Rohingyas.

In the meeting, the French ambassador discussed various issues of cooperation in a number of areas, including economy, women empowerment and climate change, the press secretary said.

The envoy said her country will work together with Bangladesh on climate change issues.
