Media centre launched to provide polls info

The government has opened a media centre, aiming to provide information related to the 11th parliamentary election from December 29-31, reports UNB.

Information Secretary Abdul Malek inaugurated the centre at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in the city on Wednesday.

Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque, chief information officer Kamrun Nahar and officials of the Election Commission, Information Ministry and Home Ministry were present at the event.

The information secretary said information and online connection services will be provided from the centre through maintaining constant communication with the Election Commission using two hotlines.

The media centre will remain open round the clock where five officials of the Information Ministry will perform duty in three shifts each.

The election results telecast by the Bangladesh Television will be screened through two digital monitors at the media centre, he said.

Mentioning that local and international media workers will be able to take services from the centre, the information secretary said the media centre will be operated jointly by the ministries of information, foreign affairs and home and the media workers will be satisfied with the information provided by the centre.

Talking to reporters Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque said election observers and journalists, including 200 foreign observers and 50 journalists, will get all information till 12 am of the 31st December from the centre.
