A Narail court has denied bail to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case over her 'derogatory remarks' about freedom fighters, report agencies.

Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahad of the District and Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after hearing the bail petition on Tuesday.

Earlier on May 30, Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahad set Tuesday to decide on the bail petition filed by BNP international affairs secretary Adv Masud Ahmed Talukder.

On December 21, 2015, Khaleda Zia at a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh raised questions about the actual number of Liberation War martyrs saying, "There're controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War. There're also many books and documents on the controversies."

Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia filed a bail petition with the High Court (HC) in a case filed under Special Power Act over the arson attack in Cumilla on Feb 3, 2015.

An HC bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman is likely to hear the petition within one or two days, said Khaleda's lawyer Advocate Masud Rana who filed the petition.

Earlier on May 28, Khaleda filed a bail petition with a Cumilla court after she was shown arrested in the case but the court denied the plea and fixed August 8 for next hearing.
