BHOLA, June 13 (UNB): Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said on Wednesday BNP's existence will be at a stake if it does not join the next general election.

"The boycott of the next general election will be a political suicide for BNP," he said.

The minister made the comments while talking to reporters after distributing clothes among helpless women in Borhanuddin municipality at noon.

Tofail also said BNP will have to be more active if it wants to participate in the election.

About BNP leader Moudud Ahmed's threat to launch a strong movement after Eid, he said it will not be possible for them to wage an agitation programme.

"They realised it in 2013, 2014 and 2015. They tried to ruin the country in the name of hartal and blockade for 93 days but failed. They'll fail in the future, too."

The Awami League leader said BNP will surely take part in the election, no matter what Moudud Ahmed says, and they will try to create chaos before the election. "But, they know they won't succeed."

He also said the election will be held in time as per the Constitution. "The Election Commission will conduct the election with efficiency, honesty and devotion under this ruling party," he said.

Describing the Election Commission as competent and efficient, he said it has already proved its worth through conducting various polls, including those of Khulna, Gaibandha and Rangpur.
