JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Sept 23 (UNB): A faction of pro-Awami League teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) demanded that Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam quit claiming that she had taken many 'illegal decisions' that are contrary to the interest of the university.

Associate Professor Farid Ahmed, also general secretary of 'Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Progatishil Shikkhak Samaj', placed the demand at a press conference held at the conference room of JU Mathematical and Physical Sciences Faculty on Sunday afternoon.

'Different problems of the university including session backlog in different departments, drugs and ragging have deepened because of some unwise decisions of the Vice-Chancellor. We cannot let her run this university in such way. So, we are demanding her resignation as early as possible," he added.

President of the teachers' group Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder, former Pro VC Prof Abul Hossain, Prof Layek Sazzad Endellah, Prof Kaushik Shaha, Professor Alamgir Kabir, Associate Professor Rabiul Islam and Associate Professor Rezaul Karim Talukder were present at the press conference.
