Punish responsible BCL men: Protesters

January 18, 2018 00:00:00

A group of Dhaka University (DU) students on Wednesday formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus demanding punishment of the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) who, they claimed, have harassed female students during an ongoing movement at DU, reports UNB.

Under the banner of `Anti-harassment student's movement' the human chain participants alleged at the instruction of BCL central leaders, some leaders and activists of the pro-government student body harassed some female students, who were staging protest against DU's affiliation with seven colleges.

"BCL leaders harassed female students in front of the vice-chancellor office and the university authorities have been totally informed about the incident. Yet, they didn't take any step for ensuring punishment," said a student, Masud al Mahadi.

Masud said the DU administration officials should quit if they fail to deliver justice when female students are being harassed on the campus.

"Though the authorities succeeded in foiling our movement by harassing and hurting students, they will not be able to stop our protest in future," said another student, Saiful Islam Khan.

After the human chain they marched towards the proctor's office to meet him at around 1:00 pm. But the gate of the office was locked from inside. Then they chanted slogans for punishing the BCL leaders involved in harassing the female students.
