Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad at a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday night sought her cooperation in removing barriers to signing the much-awaited Teesta water-sharing deal, reports UNB.
"We've discussed the Teesta water-sharing issue and sought quick solution to the problem. She (Sushma) told us that India is sincere about it and assured us of resolving the problem," Raushon made the comments while talking to reporters after coming out of the meeting at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
She said the Indian minister also assured them of fully cooperating with Bangladesh for a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis.
"We requested her (Sushma) to mount pressure on Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas to their country. She told us that India supports Bangladesh's stance that Myanmar must take back its citizens," the opposition leader said.
Raushon said they also raised the border killing issue at the meeting and urged the Indian minister to take steps to bring down it to zero level.
In reply, she said, Sushma told them that her government will take effective measures to stop the border killing.
Answering to a question from reporters, Raushon said they did not discuss Bangladesh's internal political issues and its next general election.
Jatiya Party presidium member SM Faysal Chisti, who was also present at the meeting, said the Indian minister praised Jatiya Party for its active and constructive role as the opposition in parliament.
He said Sushma also appreciated Raushon for her active and regular participation in the parliamentary activities.
