A writ petition was filed on Sunday with the High Court (HC) seeking an order on the government to ban student and teacher politics and ragging at all educational institutions, including private universities, across the countries.

A Supreme Court lawyer, Advocate Eunus Ali Akond, submitted the petition also requesting the HC to direct the authorities concerned of the government to ensure security of the students at the educational institutions.

He submitted the writ petition following the death of a BUET student, Abrar Fahad, who was beaten to death allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League men inside a residential hall of the university.

In the petition, the lawyer prayed to the High Court to pass an order on the authorities concerned to give adequate compensation to the parents of Abrar Fahad.

Citing the petition, Eunus Ali Akand told the reporters that the law and the constitutions do not permit running politics at the educational institutions.

"Abrar was killed due to the student politics, which has no logic," he said.
