Archer talent hunt begins tomorrow

The talent hunt programme of Bangladesh Archery Federation under the "Teer Go for Gold" project begins at Faridpur Stadium tomorrow (Monday), reports UNB.

City Group, manufacturer/producer of Teer, signed a five-year deal with Bangladesh Archery Federation in October last year. The project was named "Teer Go for Gold" with a target to bring gold medal from Tokyo Olympics' 2022 and the talent hunt is part of the programme.

In the first phase, the programme will be held in 12 districts-- Faridpur, Chuadanga, Joypurhat, Nilphamari, Dinajpur Rajshahi, Narail, Bandarban, Bagerharm Chattogram, Gopalganj and Dhaka.

The programme will be for 10 days where two days for selection and eight days for training. Later, the same programme will be arranged in all other districts of the country.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Archery Federation Kazi Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal disclosed the details of the programme at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association in the city on Saturday.

Executive Director of City Group Shoeb Mohammad Asaduzzaman also spoke on the occasion.

The selectors of Archery Federation will initially pick 50 boys and girls from each district, the number will be reduced to 20 in the 2nd selection process and finally two best archers from each of the district will be picked for the long term final phase training.

The City Group (Teer) will provide Tk 4.5 million (45 lakhs) for the three-month first phase programme and each of the 12 host districts will receive Tk 0.37 million (3.75 lakh) each.

The three-phase 60 days final round residential training will begin on May 22 at the Archery Training Centre at the Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
