BD make good start beating Nepal

Coming from behind, defending champions Bangladesh made a good start in the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men's Central Zone International Volleyball Championship beating Nepal by 3-1 sets in the opening match at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in the city on Saturday, reports UNB.

Hosts Bangladesh conceded 24-26 points to Nepal in the first set, but they recovered the early mistake and smartly snatched important victory beating Nepal by 25-18, 25-14, 25-21 points in the last three sets. Bangladesh will play their next match against the Maldives on Monday.

Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the week-long meet at a simple ceremony in the crowd-packed Indoor Stadium in the afternoon.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder, BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon, Volleyball Federation President Mohammad Atiqul Islam and general secretary Ashiqur Rahman Miku, among others, were also present on the occasion,

Six countries, split into two groups, are initially taking part in the meet. A strong Organising Committee for the Tournament was formed earlier with Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed MP as chairman.

Participating countries are: Group A : the Maldives, Nepal and hosts Bangladesh

Group B: Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan
