KINGSTON, July 20 (http://www.jamaicaobserver.com): Bangladesh registered a confidence-boosting four-wicket victory over a University of the West Indies (UWI) Vice Chancellor's XI in a one-off day/night 50 over contest at Sabina Park on Thursday.

Set a target of 228, after the Vice Chancellor's XI mustered 227-9 from their allotment, Bangladesh made heavy weather of the chase in parts, but were comfortable victors in the end at 230-6 off 43.3 overs.

Top order batsman Litton Das (70) and former captain Mushfiqur Rahim (75 not out) contributed significantly to the Bangladeshi's victory with a 52-run sixth wicket stand.

The performance saw them gaining some confidence heading into the first of three One-day Internationals against West Indies starting in Guyana on Sunday.

West Indies recently swept the Test series 2-0.

Das had six fours and two sixes in his 79-ball knock , while Rahim was left unbeaten on 75 off 70 deliveries and includes six fours and one six.

Nazmul Shanto (43) was the next best scorer for Bangladesh.

Rovman Powell (2-32) had best figures for the Vice Chancellor's XI.

Earlier, with Chris Gayle (29), Rovman Powell (six) and Andre Russell (11) all failing to spark, it took a solid 91-run seven-wicket stand between Yanick Otlley (58) and Kavem Hodge (44) to see the Vice Chancellor's XI to a respectable total.

Both batsmen slammed four boundaries and one six each while wicketkeeper/batsman Amir Jangoo (36) had three boundaries and one six.

Jangoo had earlier partnered with Gayle to put on an even 50-run second wicket stand. Gayle also had three boundaries and one six in his 44-ball 29.

Musaddek Saikat was the chief destroyer for Bangladesh with 4-14 from 10 overs including three maidens.

Scores: Vice Chancellor's XI 227-9 (50 overs); Bangladesh 230-6 (43.3overs)
