Young Tigers take 1-0 lead beating England by 8 wkts

Bangladesh U-19 Cricket team got off to a good start in the two-match four-day Youth Test series beating touring English U-19 side by eight wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city of Chattogram on Sunday, reports UNB.

Earlier, the Young Tigers whitewashed the visitors in the three-match Youth ODI series 3-0 beating them by five wickets in both the 1st and 2nd One Day Internationals (ODIs) and outplaying them by 63 runs in the 3rd and final one, all at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox's Bazar.

This was the second successive series victory for the Under-19 side after winning the one-off T20 series beating visiting English Youth team by seven wickets at the same venue.

In the 1st Youth Test, England U-19 side having 280 runs in the first innings resumed the 2nd innings on the 4th and final day (Sunday) with overnight score 89 for 6 and were bundled out cheaply for 152 runs in 84.3 overs with two overnight batsmen GCH Hill (32) and LBK Hollman (29) emerging as the leading scorers for the tourists.

Minhazur Rahman bowled devastatingly to grab six wickets for 28 runs to be adjudged man of the match while Asadullah Galib claimed three wickets for 30 runs.

After the match, Head Coach of England U-19 team Jon Lewis and Manager of Bangladesh U-19 team Shajal Chowdhury distributed the man of the match trophy to Minhazur Rahman.

Having 398 runs in the first innings, the Young Tigers opened the 2nd innings with a small target of 35 runs and easily reached the target scoring 40 runs for the loss of two wickets in 10 overs to win the match comfortably by eight wickets.

One down Shamim Ahmed scored an unbeaten 20 runs and opener Amite Hasan made 10 runs for the Young Tigers.

AW Finch and LBK Hollman took one wicket each conceding 6 and 19 runs respectively.

The English team will play the 2nd and last match of the two-match four-day Youth Tests series on February 15-18 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram before leaving for home on February 19.
