BBS Cables tops DSE transaction chart

10 companies snare 27pc turnover

Top 10 traded companies captured more than 27 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Monday while BBS Cables topped the chart.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the board of directors of BBS Cables will be held today (Tuesday) at 4:30pm to consider, among others, audited financial statements for the year ended on June 30, 2017 and dividend recommendation is likely to come from the meeting.

The total transaction on the DSE stood at Tk 5.23 billion on the day, which was 3.68 per cent lower than the previous day's turnover of Tk 5.43 billion.

The most active shares in terms of value included BBS Cables, Aamra Networks, LankaBangla Finance, Grameenphone, IFAD Autos, Brac Bank, Rangpur Foundry, Uttara Bank, Square Pharmaceuticals and Investment Corporation of Bangladesh.

Of them, share price of six companies fell up to 4.95 per cent while four companies advanced up to 4.36 per cent on the day over the previous session.

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 1.45 million shares of BBS Cables were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 208 million, which was 3.98 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 139.50 and Tk 146.50, before closing at Tk 140.40 on the day, losing 1.68 per cent over the previous session.

BBS Cables, which made its shares trading debut on July 31, this year floated 20 million ordinary shares and raised Tk 200 million from the public using the fixed price method.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.20 billion and authorised capital is Tk 3.0 billion, while the total number of securities is 120 million.

Sponsor-directors own 33.60 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 25.88 per cent, foreign investors 0.15 per cent and the general public 40.37 per cent as on September 30, 2017, the DSE data shows.

Recently listed Aamra Networks followed next, with shares of Tk 184 million changing hands, capturing 3.52 per cent of the day's total turnover. The company's share price closed at Tk 122.20, advancing 4.36 per cent over the previous session.

LankaBangla emerged as third with shares of Tk 183 million changing hands. It was 3.50 per cent of the total turnover value. The company's share price fell 1.84 per cent to close at Tk 63.80 each.

GP notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 182 million changing hands, which was 3.42 per cent of the total turnover. The lone listed mobile phone company's share price closed at Tk 431.20, advancing 0.26 per cent. IFAD Autos featured a turnover of Tk 163 million which was 3.12 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price rose 2.68 per cent to close at Tk 126 each.

The turnover of Brac Bank was Tk 110 million, capturing 2.10 per cent of the day's total value. The bank's share price closed at Tk 96.40, losing 0.52 per cent over the previous day.

Rangpur Foundry featured a turnover of Tk 105 million, which was 2.0 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price closed at Tk 151.30, losing 0.46 per cent. The turnover of Uttara Bank was Tk 104 million, grabbing 1.95 per cent of the day's total turnover. The bank's share price closed at Tk 36.50 each, shedding 4.95 per cent.

Square Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 96 million, which was 1.83 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price fell 0.76 per cent to close at Tk 297.50 each.

ICB was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 88 million changing hands. The state-run entity's share price closed at Tk 191.90 each, advancing 0.21 per cent over the previous session.
