LHBL opens Supercrete Bridge in Sunamganj

Kazi M. Aminul Islam, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority on Tuesday addressing while inaugurating Supercrete Bridge built by LafargeHolcim Bangladesh at Doarabazar in Sunamganj. René Holenstein, Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, Christof Hassig, chairman and Rajesh Surana, CEO, LHBL were present during the inauguration along with other high officials of the company and local dignitaries

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh (LHBL) built a bridge on Gilatoli Canal, Doarabazar in Chhatak, Sunamganj as a part of its corporate social responsibility.

The bridge will now facilitate thousands of villagers in commuting to Chhatak town and nearby places without the hazard of crossing the canal on foot. Kazi M Aminul Islam, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) & Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh René Holenstein on Tuesday inaugurated the bridge named 'SupercreteShetu'.

Supercrete is the brand of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, said a statement.

Christof Hassig, Chairman, Rajesh Surana, Chief Executive,E R Kim, Industrial Director, Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs, M Asif Bhuiyan, Marketing & Commercial Transformation Director, of LHBL along with other high officials of the company were present at the inauguration ceremony.

"LafargeHolcim Bangladesh has always been working for sustainable development of the local community around its cement plant in Chhatak. This bridge will not only ease the hardship and risks of the local community but greatly contribute to socio economic development of the villagers." said Rajesh Surana.

"LHBL used its own technology and assistance to build the 32 meter long and 5 meter wide Supercrete Bridge. The bridge will strengthen the relationship between local community and LHBL." he added

BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi Aminul Islam in his speech said, LHBL has done a tremendous job building a bridge for the local community in such a remote area. This is really appreciable. This bridge is almost 12 k.m. away from their plant which was sorely needed for the local community. I hope the bridge will play a key role for the development of the community.

Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh René Holenstein said "I am amazed by the beauty of this area. Switzerland is always keen to be a part of the development of Bangladesh. The bridge built by LafargeHolcim, a Swiss company, will solve the transportation problem as well as will play a vital role for socio economic development of the local community."

LHBL Chairman Christof Hassig in his address on the occasion mentioned that LafargeHolcim, a global leader in construction materials, is committed to sustainable development. It believes in fostering improvement in lifestyle of all people around its plants of operation.
