Low-cap cos dominate gainers’ chart

Listed companies with low capitalisation dominated the gainer's chart of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Sunday though they had no price sensitive information (PSI) or any expansion plan.

The premier bourse served show-case notice on some of the low-cap companies recently. The companies, however, informed the premier bourse that they have no price sensitive information.

"Even after serving of show-cause notice and drastic market fall, the prices of these low-cap companies continued to rise, which will hit the investors hard," said an analyst, seeking anonymity.

He noted that investors should be careful about the unusual price hike of the low-cap companies.

Of the companies, Fine Foods dominated the day's gainer chart, soaring 9.87 per cent to close at Tk 42.30 on Sunday. The company's share price jumped 47 per cent within the last one week. The company's paid-up cap is Tk 135.67 million.

Following the recent abnormal price hike, the DSE served show-cause notice on the company. However, the company informed the DSE Sunday that there is no undisclosed price sensitive information for recent unusual price hike of its shares.

Another low-cap company - Intech Limited -- was the day's second highest gainer, posting a gain of 6.96 per cent to close at Tk 21.50. The company's share price surged nearly 29 per cent within a week.

Apex Foods emerged as third highest gainer, posting a gain of 6.10 per cent to close at Tk 184.60 on the day. The company's share price jumped 31 per cent within a week.

Metro Spinning was the fourth highest gainer. The company's share price rose 6.01 per cent to close at Tk 14.10. Its share price soared 27 per cent within a week.

Makson Spinning posted a 4.67 per cent positive return. The company's share price closed at Tk 11.20 each. The company's share price gained 14 per cent in the past one week.

Eastern Cables saw a 4.47 per cent price surge and emerged the sixth top gainer. The company's share price closed at Tk 238.30. Its share price surged more than 15 per cent in a week.

Apex Spinning was the day's seventh highest gainer with 4.38 per cent gain. The company's share price settled at Tk 123.70.

CVO Petrochemical Refinery featured in the eighth highest gainer, soaring 4.27 per cent to close at Tk 214.90 each.
