CHATTOGRAM, Aug 11: The Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) will organise a month-long SME Expo from October 15 in the port city.
The objective of the exhibition is to explore new SME products market in the global arena, strengthen bondage between the consumers and producers, and enhance export earnings from the sector
The 12th International Women's SME Expo will be organised at Railway Stadium Polo Ground in cooperation with Export Promotion Bureau, FBCCI, SME Foundation and Jute Diversification Promotion Centre this year.
Organisers said this at a press conference held at the conference hall of the CWCCI in the city on Saturday.
A written statement was presented by SME Expo chairperson and vice president of the CWCCI Dr Munal Mahbub with the CWCCI President Monowara Hakim Ali in the chair.
Sabiha Nahar Begum MP was present as chief guest on the occasion. Anwara Upazila Parishad chairman Tauhidul Haque Chowdhury was present as special guest.
It was also addressed by CWCCI senior vice presidents Abida Sultana and Ruhi Mostafa and vice president Jesmin Aktar.
Mrs Munal said it would be the biggest fair of the women entrepreneurs of the country. Women entrepreneurs from Iran, India, China, Malaysia and Thailand have expressed their eagerness to participate in the fair this year.
The month-long fair will have as many as 350 stalls and 15 pavilions through which the local women enterprises will display their products from the small and medium enterprise sector.
Mrs Munal said the womenfolk of the country were lagging behind in manufacturing and business sectors as well as in education for a long time in the past but they are now building their fortune and contributing a lot to the national economy.
She said that the government has been extending its full support to the SME sector in different ways. If the government continues providing bank loans for expanding business, training and marketing their products, the women entrepreneurs will be able to bring about revolutionary changes in the national economy.
She said the CWCCI started its journey 20 years ago in the port city and has been advancing since fighting all odds like lack of women education, social obstruction, religious bindings, disparity between men and women, lack of equal rights of men and women and lack of honour to the womenfolk in the society.
The fair will have sufficient security arrangements with full time deployment of the police and private security staffs, permanent police camp, CCTV cameras, fire service facilities and electricity supply.
Apart from that the organisers will set up an electricity generation and water supply facility in the fair, CWCCI president Monowara Hakim Ali said.
