Most energy cos report better earnings in Jan-Mar quarter

Most of the listed companies under fuel and power sector reported increased earnings per share (EPS) for the January-March (Q3) quarter of 2018 compared to the same period of previous year.

Out of the 19 companies under the sector, three reported positive EPS for the quarter against the losses the companies incurred in the same period of the previous year.

CVO Petrochemical Refinery reported EPS of Tk 0.27 for January-March 2018 as against a loss of Tk 0.95 per share for January-March 2017. The NAV per share was Tk 14.32 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 14.29 as on June 30, 2017.

Dhaka Electric Supply Company also reported EPS of Tk 0.08 for January-March 2018 as against a loss of Tk 0.39 per share for January-March 2017. The company's NAV per share was Tk 39.31 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 37.78 as on June 30, 2017.

Eastern Lubricants exhibited EPS of Tk 14.25 for January-March 2018 as against a loss of Tk 0.78 per share for January-March 2017. The NAV per share was Tk 161.60 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 143.07 as on June 30, 2017.

The other companies which reported increased EPS included Doreen Power Generations and Systems, Eastern Lubricants, Jamuna Oil, Linde Bangladesh, MJL Bangladesh, Meghna Petroleum, Summit Power and United Power & Distribution Company.

Doreen Power reported consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 1.90 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 1.84 for January-March 2017. The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 38.58 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 35.96 as on June 30, 2017.

The EPS of Jamuna Oil was Tk 5.09 in January-March 2018 as against Tk 3.17 in January-March, 2017. The NAV per share was Tk 162.31 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 158.90 as on March 31, 2017

The consolidated EPS of Baraka Power was Tk 0.36 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 0.71 for January-March 2017. The company also reported consolidated NAV of Tk 18.57 per share as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 20.12 per share as on June 30, 2017.

GBB Power reported a loss of Tk 0.04 per share for January-March 2018 as against the EPS of Tk 0.32 for January-March 2017. The NAV per share was Tk 20.15 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 20.05 as on June 30, 2017.

Intraco Refuelling Station reported consolidated basic EPS of Tk 0.29 for January-March, 2018 as against the consolidated basic EPS of Tk 0.37 for the same period of previous year.

Khulna Power Company reported the EPS of Tk 1.21 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 1.40 for January-March 2017. The NAV per share was Tk 24.63 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 26.20 as on June 30, 2017.

Among others, Linde Bangladesh has reported EPS of Tk 17.45 for January-March, 2018 as against Tk 16.16 for January-March 2017 while MJL Bangladesh has reported consolidated EPS of Tk 2.13 against Tk 1.96, Meghna Petroleum Tk 6.35 against Tk 4.19, Padma Oil Tk 5.69 against Tk 3.35, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Tk 0.88 against Tk 0.67, Shahjibazar Power Company Tk 1.39 (Consolidated) against Tk 1.66, Summit Power Tk 1.04 (Consolidated) against Tk 0.77, Titas Gas Tk 0.66 against Tk 1.45, and United Power Tk 2.88 against Tk. 2.77.
