Top 10 traded companies captured more than 26 per cent transaction of the Dhaka bourse on Wednesday while BBS Cables dominating the chart.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 2.97 million shares of BBS Cables were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 318 million, which was 4.29 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 7.40 billion which was Tk 7.32 billion in the previous session.
The company's share price hovered between Tk 104.80 and Tk 109, before closing at Tk 105.50 each, advancing 1.05 per cent over the previous day.
BBS Cables signed a Tk 936 million agreement with Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) on July 25 under distribution network expansion for 100 per cent electrification project for the supply of conductor.
Brokers said the investors showed enthusiasm following news on the deal, which created hype among the investors in the recent days.
The company's (un-audited) earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 2.31 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 0.86 for January-March 2017.
In nine months for July 2017-March 2018, its EPS was Tk 5.84 as against Tk 2.34 for July 2016-March 2017.
The net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 0.50 for July 2017-March, 2018 as against Tk 4.53 for July 2016-March 2017.
The net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 22.08 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 19.17 as on June 30, 2017.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.38 billion, authorised capital is Tk 3.0 billion and the total number of securities is 138 million.
The other most active shares in terms of value included Fortunes Shoes, United Power, BD Thai Aluminium, IFAD Autos, Saiham Textile, KDS Accessories, Simtex Industries, Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills and Hamid Fabrics.
Fortune Shoes followed next, with shares worth Tk 259 million changing hands. The shoe maker's share price closed at Tk 37.40 each, advancing 1.08 per cent over the previous day.
United Power notched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 232 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price fell 0.46 per cent to close at Tk 339.40 each.
BD Thai emerged as fourth with shares worth Tk 220 million changing hands. The engineering sector company's share price closed at Tk 26.60 each, advancing 5.13 per cent.
The turnover of IFAD Autos was Tk 173 million. The company's share price gained 0.57 per cent to close at Tk 123.50 each.
Saiham Textile featured a turnover of Tk 158 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 28.60 each, losing 4.67 per cent.
The turnover of KDS Accessories was Tk 141 million. The company's share price rose 5.55 per cent to close at Tk 112.20 each.
Simtex featured a turnover of Tk 132 million. Its share price fell 0.53 per cent to close at Tk 37.70 each.
The turnover of Ratanpur Steel was Tk 123 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 62.80 each, shedding 0.78 per cent.
Hamid Fabrics was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 120 million changing hands. The company's share price jumped 6.82 per cent to close at Tk 31.30 each.
