24 cos to get 'OSH Good Practice Award' today

A total of 24 local companies from five sectors will be awarded today (Sunday) for their outstanding contribution in ensuring occupational safety and health (OSH) in respective workplaces.

The government will hand over the 'OSH Good Practice Award' to the companies at a ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the city.

A wide range of activities will take place today to celebrate the National OSH Day with the theme - 'Safe Workplace: Bangladesh towards Sustainable Development'.

The disclosures were made at a press conference, held at MoLE on Saturday.

"The government launched the award last year to create awareness about occupational health and safety among the workers and the factory owners, and also to encourage the owners," State Minister for Labour Monnujan Sufian said at the conference.

The 24 companies will be awarded on the occasion of the National OSH Day on Sunday.

OSH is an important issue in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and in becoming a developed country by 2041, she also said.

The government is advocating for social dialogues between the workers and the owners in resolving disputes in factories.

A total of 2,262 safety committees have been formed in the ready-made garment (RMG) factories, while a tripartite consultative committee has been formed for the sake of RMG sector workers, the state minister noted.

A helpline service 16357 has also been introduced to lodge complaints and address other related issues.

The government will take all the required steps to ensure the workers' safety as well as health and workplace safety, she added.

Acting Labour Secretary Ummul Hasna and Additional Secretary Syed Ahmed, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Shibnath Roy, among others, were present in the briefing.

The companies to be awarded are from RMG, jute, leather, tea and pharmaceutical sectors.

They are: Plummy Fashions Ltd, Wisdom Attires Ltd, Nafisa Apparels Ltd, Mother Color Limited, Fatullah Apparels, Comfit Composite Knit Ltd, Laila Styles ltd, Epyllion Style Ltd, Ecofab Limited, Ananta Garments Limited, Crown Wears (Pvt) Ltd, Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Ltd, Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Sanofi Bangladesh Ltd, Maf Shoes Ltd, Outer Signal, Apex Footwear Ltd, Picard Bangladesh Limited, Zareen Plantation Ltd, Madhupur Tea Estate, Shumshernugger Tea Estate, Janata Jute Mills Ltd, Wahab Jute Mills Ltd and Northern Jute Manufacturing Company Ltd.
