Leaders of the country's apparel industry paid tribute on Sunday to late mayor Annisul Huq and recalled his great contributions to society and the business arena.
Annisul Huq, the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) who also served as president of the country' apex trade body FBCCI, the BGMEA and the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was a successful organiser, a good human being and active social worker, they said.
They made the remarks at a meeting in memory of Annisul Huq, organised by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at its complex in the city.
Annisul Huq passed away in a London hospital on November 30 last year while undergoing treatment there. He was laid to rest at Banani graveyard in Dhaka.
Speaking at the event, his widow Rubana Huq, managing director of Mohammadi Group, said the late mayor was a very simple leader.
Annisul Huq's younger brother and former Army chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq urged all to pray for the eternal peace of the late mayor and take steps to implement the work plan of his elder brother.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) said Annisul Huq was a very liberal leader as he did not hesitate to negotiate with the foes with an open mind.
Terming him a humble and gentle leader, BGMEA president Md Siddiqur Rahman said Annisul Huq became successful in all fields -- from business to politics -- due to his strong leadership.
Annisul was so committed that when he wanted to do a task, he made it possible by any means, he said.
Former president of FBCCI AK Azad and former president of BGMEA Atiqul Islam, among others, also spoke.
