The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) handed over a cheque for Tk 500 million to the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) on Monday for setting up a garment park in Mirsarai economic zone.

BGMEA President Md Siddiqur Rahman handed over the cheque to BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury at the latter's office in the city, says a statement.

BGMEA Vice President Mohammed Nasir and BEZA Executive Member Harun-ur-Rashid, among others, were present.

BGMEA has so far paid a total of Tk 1.0 billion, including the latest amount, to BEZA for developing the garment park, the statement added.

On March 21 last year, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the BGMEA and the BEZA to set up a garment park on an area of 500 acres within the Mirsarai economic zone.

The BEZA has allocated the land to BGMEA to relocate the unplanned units there and set up factories in compliance with the international standards, the statement said.
