Domestic protection policy must before introducing e-commerce: Speakers

Representatives of civil society organisations (CSO), rights activists and businesses have demanded of the government to frame a domestic protection policy for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) before introducing E-commerce in the country.

They made the demand in a national seminar, titled 'E-Commerce & Domestic Protection: Issue of WTO Ministerial Conference 2017', at the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday. They also demanded to declare government position on E-commerce issue in the World Trade Organisation (WTO)'s next ministerial conference, says a statement.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Director Md Fazlul Karim, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Abu Naser, member of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) Asjadul Kibria, Dr Mesbahuddin Ahamed of Jatyo Sramik Jote, Convenor of Labour Movement Forum Abul Hossen, SA TV Chief Reporter Salauddin Bablu and Badrul Alam of Bangladesh Krishak Forum spoke in the seminar, moderated by Aminul Hoque of EquityBD. Barkatullah Maruf of EquityBD presented the key note paper.
